Match of the Day Star drops by to thank Yorkshire Marathon Runners

Match of the Day commentator Guy Mowbray dropped in to Cod Beck Blenders to thank the staff team of the Dalton business for their fundraising efforts.

Guy is Patron of Topcliffe based charity The Sporting Memories Foundation, who run free weekly groups for older sports fans living with dementia, depression and loneliness.

Cod Beck Blenders entered two teams in the Yorkshire Marathon’s Corporate Relay, with six intrepid runners each taking on a leg of the race. Both teams completed the challenge, crossing the finishing line together, raising £2,195.00 in the process. For many of the staff it was their first time running such an event.

Managing Director Steve Meyer, who competed in the race said “It was a fantastic effort by our two teams, as well as raising much needed funds for such a great cause, we’ve enjoyed the team building in preparing for it and five of the staff have taken up running as a consequence of this.”

After chatting with the teams about their sterling efforts, the Match of the Day commentator was quizzed on his thoughts on this season and on how he prepares for matches.

On being presented with the cheque, Guy Mowbray said ”The work the charity does in supporting older sports fans and former footballers living with conditions such as dementia is vital. We see week in week out the impact and benefit people get from attending the Sporting Memories Clubs. Congratulations to all the Cod Beck Blenders staff on completing the Yorkshire Marathon, what a brilliant effort.”
